Turkey has been using every platform for the international recognition of northern Cyprus

The trade office, registered as a private company, will most probably open in April in Tel Aviv immediately after the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry appoints a diplomat, according to the Turkish official.

He underlined that Israeli investors were already doing business in northern Cyprus especially in the real estate sector and the trade office would further contribute to tourism and trade ties between Israel and northern Cyprus.

Israel is not banning the possibility of having a business relationship with northern Cyprus, said the Israeli diplomat. But he emphasized that there was no official Israeli involvement in the establishment of the trade office and that it would be like those opened in other countries.

Cypros A strong economy

“I think the impact in Cyprus will be less dramatic. The same will be true in Europe, because Europe is a well run economy with modest budget and trade deficits and good rules that have been able to insulate the economy from these abrupt changes that have happened in the US, where adjustment has been postponed for too long,” he said. “Americans have been living beyond their means. They have a huge budget deficit because of the [Iraq] war, a huge trade deficit and they have only been rescued by the willingness of people like the Chinese and the oil rich countries to hold on to their dollars.”

Russian investors favour Cyprus

A growing number of property investors from Russia are choosing to buy homes in Cyprus, experts have revealed.

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) stated that interest among second home buyers from abroad was encouraging growth in the country's housing market.

According to the organisation, much of this interest has come from Russian property investors.

Rics said that consumers in the Eurasian country had not been as badly affected by the global credit crunch as people in the west of Europe.
